Human sexual activity is the way on how people experience, express and act on their sexuality. It is only human nature to experience sexual excitement. People engaged in sexual activities experience sexual arousal. When a person is aroused, there are some physiological effects. These can be very apparent but some are very subtle. The science on why humans engage in sexual activities is viewed in many different levels. It has social, psychological, physiological and behavioral implications.

The topic of sexual activity branches out into many different subtopics. There are many ways on how to attract partners and stimulate body arousal. This is why there are foreplays and flirting. A person’s sexual activity can also be affected by different factors. Gender preference plays a huge role in a person’s sexual activity. Heterosexuals are sexually attracted to those of the opposite sex. There are also homosexuals who are attracted to those with the same sex. There are different types of sexual activities. These types include masturbation, oral sex, anal sex, vaginal sex and many other types. Levels of sexual enjoyment vary on each person.

Humans have sexual needs. Interacting to stimulate sexual arousal and initiate sexual activity is normal. There are different reasons why people engage in sexual activities. It can be because of physical attraction, sexual pleasure and emotional connection. In a traditional setting, a sexual activity’s main purpose is reproduction. Traditionalist and those with conservative background may argue that this should be the sole reason of engaging in a sexual activity. Though engaging in sexual activities is scientifically normal, there are still those people who are not open to the idea of talking about sex. There are also different sexual practices that are considered taboo or deviant. Topics about homosexuality, intercourse, BDSM, incest, bestiality, premarital sex and fetishism are still considered sensitive.
