Lubricants
Lubricants or Personal lubricants are known as specialized lubricants, which are used during intercourse or human sexual activity in order to reduce friction between the body parts, and between body parts as well as other objects involved during sex. Personal lubricants are colloquially termed as “lube”. These lubes are used not only during an intercourse but can also be used when masturbating. Lubes are used during sexual intercourse in order to reduce friction between or to the vagina and penis, anus, and even other body parts. It is also applied to dildos or sex toys in order to develop ease in penetration and reduce friction. Medical or surgical gels or lubricants that are similar yet not usually labelled or referred as personal lubricants, can be used for some medical purposes like introduction of catheter or speculum insertion.
The common types of personal lubricants are the following:
- water-based lubricants
- oil-based lubricants
- fertility lubricants
- natural or organic lubricants
- silicone-based lubricants
- specialty lubricants
- anal-specific lubricants
Using Lubricant in Sexual Activity
Personal lubricants or lubes can be used in order to reducing pain and increase pleasure during sexual activities like sexual intercourse. In addition to that, it can be used to lubricate the vagina, penis, anus or other sex toys such as dildos during or before any sexual activity. Lubes can also be applied to almost any body part you usually use during sexual intercourse, to the outside and/or inside of condoms, as well as to the fingers or hands. Personal lubricants are extremely useful for intercourse especially when the partner experiences excessive tightness or contraction, and dryness of the vagina or the anus. Generally, anal sex requires large amount of lubricant application since the anus doesn’t have any natural lubrication to support sexual activity. While lubes are commonly used during intercourse, it is also being used during masturbation.
