Homosexuality refers to sexual or romantic attraction towards people of the same gender or sex. As an orientation, it points to a pervasive disposition for experiencing affectionate, romantic, or sexual attraction either exclusively or primarily to people from the same sex. Homosexuality also tackles a person’s sense of social and personal identity as affected by the attraction to the same sex, the behaviors that express these attractions, and being part of a community that share the same experiences. It is one of the primary categories for sexual orientation, joining heterosexuality and bisexuality.
While there remain a lot of people who believe homosexuality is unnatural, it should not be considered a disease. In fact, all major organizations for mental health, like the American Psychological Association, have made it clear that being a homosexual is not a mentally-related disorder. You can be anxious and under a lot of stress when you are confused or unsure about your sexual orientation that’s why you may also experience physical problems such as headaches, trouble sleeping, and nausea. Talking to someone you can trust, be it friends or family members, can help reduce your anxiety and stress. However, keep in mind that coming out will not always be a comfortable experience, though it may be easier than you expected.
